The IACET accreditation process can appear complex, especially for first-time applicants. Many organizations consider hiring a consultant to help navigate the requirements. While engaging a consultant can be helpful in certain circumstances, it is essential to do so thoughtfully and with clear expectations to avoid potential pitfalls.
We have observed instances where consultants assembled well-organized applications that technically met the standards but did not sufficiently equip the organization to speak confidently about their processes. In such cases, applicants often struggled to answer process-oriented questions during accreditation interviews. Furthermore, when standards or internal processes changed, these same organizations faced difficulty updating policies or submitting accurate Annual Reports—an indication that they did not fully "own" the application content.
If you decide to engage a consultant, we encourage you to use the IACET Consultant Evaluation Framework (ICEF) as part of your selection process. This framework helps ensure that consultants are not only technically proficient but also aligned with your organization’s training mission, values, and operational practices. It is available upon request.
IACET neither endorses nor prohibits the use of consultants. However, if you choose to work with one, the following policies will apply during the application review:

Accreditation is about your processes, your systems, and your organizational integrity. Therefore, no matter how knowledgeable a consultant may be, their work must empower you, not replace your engagement.
If engaging a consultant, consider selecting someone who:
