Revised Standard Now Available

IACET Releases Revised Standard on Continuing Education and Training

May 29, 2013 (McLean, VA) – The International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET)  is pleased to announce that the ANSI/IACET 1-2013 Standard for Continuing Education and Training was approved by ANSI on February 12, 2013.  This Standard is a revision of the ANSI/IACET 1-2007 Standard and it provides a framework of best practices for developing effective and valuable continuing education and training (CE/T) programs.

During the IACET Council on Standards Development (ICSD) revision meetings regarding the 2007 version of the Standard, the ICSD reviewed current research practice in CE/T as well as the consolidated questions from the monthly AP Application Assistance Webinars to determine what types of revisions were needed.  Based on the ICSD’s analysis, it was determined that the revisions to the Standard would not be substantive, and would include more clarification and the elimination/consolidation of certain standard category elements.

This revised standard applies to the continuing education and training industry and provides the framework to aid an organization in establishing a quality learning process. The standard uses a systematic approach to identify and analyze learning needs to help organizations establish an appropriate responsibility and control system; encourage an analytic approach to identifying and analyzing learning needs; design, plan and execute a quality learning event; establish appropriate assessment criteria based on the learning outcomes; and monitor and improve the learning process in order to achieve its outcomes.
