Inclusive Learning by Design: UDL for Adult Education

IACET members design and deliver learning experiences for diverse audiences across continuing education, workforce development, credentialing, certification, and professional learning programs. Yet many learning environments are still built around assumptions about how learners engage, access information, and demonstrate knowledge. In this webinar, CAST, authors of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework, will explore how UDL and accessibility work together to address learner variability and create more inclusive, engaging, and effective learning experiences. Participants will learn practical strategies for reducing barriers, increasing participation, and designing flexible learning environments that support all learners while improving outcomes across the learning journey.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Explain how learner variability impacts participation, engagement, and success in adult and continuing education environments.
- Apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and accessibility practices to create more inclusive and effective learning experiences.
Identify opportunities to reduce barriers and increase learner engagement across courses, training programs, credentialing, and professional learning experiences
Kelli Suding
As a Professional Learning Specialist on the Accessibility Team at CAST and technical assistance support for the Center on Inclusive Technology & Education Systems (CITES), Kelli promotes the availability of accessible educational materials and technologies to ensure that all students have equitable and inclusive opportunities for learning.
Kelli has keynote, national, state, and regional presentation and training experience. Kelli also has a strong understanding of and ability to connect theory to practice. Her instructional experience has been with students requiring mild, moderate, and intense intervention. Kelli’s specializations include autism, accessible educational materials & accessible technologies, Google Chrome accessibility & integration, specific learning disabilities, and Universal Design for Learning. She is an IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC).
Prior to joining CAST, Kelli worked as a Specialist for a state education agency in Indiana for 10 years, where she supported all Indiana public schools in ensuring equitable access for all students. Kelli also led several school districts through the AEMing for Achievement Grant each year in creating sustainable policies and procedures to bring districts into full compliance in providing accessible materials and accessible technologies.
When Kelli is not working, she seeks outdoor adventures through camping, hiking, and traveling, combined with her love of photography and music. She goes off route to find quirky roadside attractions, food trucks, and any local favorites in the area.
