Founded in 1998 to provide efficient, responsive care, the health system offers a full network of health services and encompasses four highly regarded inpatient hospitals - Duke University Hospital, Durham Regional Hospital, Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital, and Duke Raleigh Hospital a campus of Duke University Hospital – along with physician practices, home hospice care and various support services at locations across North Carolina.

As an IACET Accredited Provider (continuously, since 1992), Duke University Health System Clinical Education and Professional Development has offers IACET CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard. In support of improving patient care, Duke University Health System Clinical Education & Professional Development is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. Duke Health's four inpatient facilities--Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, a campus of Duke University Hospital, and Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital--form the foundation of the Duke University Health System. Each has the unique capacity of bringing to patients the highest quality inpatient medical and surgical care provided by Duke's nationally recognized faculty, nursing staff and care teams utilizing the latest in sophisticated medical technology. Duke University Hospital is consistently rated as one of the best in the United States and is known around the world for its outstanding care and groundbreaking research. With more than 11,000 employees, Duke University Hospital is both a research hospital where medical advances are created and put into use, and a teaching hospital for students of medicine, nursing and related health sciences. At its main Durham campus, Duke University Hospital has 1,106 licensed inpatient beds and offers comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center; a major surgery suite containing 51 operating rooms; an endosurgery center; a separate hospital outpatient surgical department with nine operating rooms, an extensive diagnostic and interventional radiology area and an eye center with five additional operating rooms. Duke University Hospital also has a Wake County campus, Duke Raleigh Hospital. In fiscal year 2023, Duke University Hospital admitted 41,549 patients and had 1,244,363 outpatient visits. Duke University Hospital is recognized as the best hospital in North Carolina and nationally ranked in 11 adult and 10 pediatric specialties by U.S. News & World Report for 2024–2025.

Duke Regional Hospital has served Durham, Orange, Person, Granville and Alamance counties and the surrounding communities for 45 years. With more than 3,500 team members, we provide outstanding health care with compassionate, personalized service in a comfortable community hospital setting. Duke Regional Hospital has 388 inpatient beds and offers a comprehensive range of medical, surgical and diagnostic services, including orthopaedics, weight loss surgery, women's services, and heart and vascular services. In fiscal year 2023, Duke Regional Hospital admitted 15,866 patients and had 236,000 outpatient visits.

Duke Raleigh Hospital, a campus of Duke University Hospital provides a patient-friendly setting no matter where you visit us -- in our campus' North Pavilion, South Pavilion, or clinics. Duke Raleigh has been part of Duke Health since 1998 and has served Wake County for more than 35 years. It employs more than 2,000 people. The campus has 204 inpatient beds and offers a comprehensive array of services, including, cancer care, cardiovascular care, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal care, and wound healing. We also maintain laboratory and imaging services, a pain clinic, 24/7 emergency care, community outreach and education programs. In fiscal year 2023, Duke Raleigh admitted 10,204 patients and had 397,299 outpatient visits.

Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital has been serving the healthcare needs of the greater Lake Norman area, Iredell, and surrounding counties, since 1926. The 123-bed, acute-care hospital was acquired by Duke Health in 2025. It was formerly known as Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. The medical campus includes 24-hour emergency medicine, a weight loss surgery center, women's services, the Stork's Landing Maternity Center, cardiology and surgical services. It also includes an orthopedic specialty center, an outpatient imaging center, and an outpatient surgery center.
