About
The American Public Power Association, based in Arlington, Va., is the service organization for the nation's more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities in 49 states and five U.S. territories--serving more than 48 million Americans (15% of the nation's electric consumers). Of those 2,000 utilities, nearly 1,400 are APPA members. Our membership ranges from some of the nation's largest cities to very rural areas. Each employee at a member utility is entitled to member benefits, which includes industry representation on legislative/regulatory issues, daily/weekly/monthly informational resources (as well as list servers, web content, surveys), education resources (publications, CE/T events), and other resources to help them serve their customers. APPA was created in 1940 as a nonprofit, non-partisan organization. We have a staff of 65 employees, nine of which work in the Education & Customer Programs department--a fully integrated part of the Association
