Announcement

The International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing high-quality standards for continuing education and training. Following an audit conducted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), IACET is proactively implementing improvements to its standards development process to ensure greater transparency, consensus, and compliance with ANSI’s Essential Requirements.

The audit identified areas where procedural enhancements were necessary, particularly in documentation, stakeholder engagement, and the resolution of public comments. While IACET has made progress in refining its process over previous audits, this latest review provides an opportunity to further strengthen our approach to standards development.

As part of this improvement effort, IACET has paused the release of the 2023 Draft Standard for Continuing Education and Training to ensure all procedural enhancements are fully implemented before the next standard is submitted for approval as an American National Standard (ANS). This decision reflects our dedication to upholding the highest standards of due process, fairness, and stakeholder inclusion.

Importantly, IACET’s 2018 Standard remains a recognized American National Standard and continues to serve as the framework for providers committed to delivering high quality continuing education, training, and professional development worldwide.

Additionally, IACET is committed to developing and submitting a new ANS Standard within two years. This timeline ensures that we implement all necessary improvements while maintaining a rigorous, transparent, and stakeholder driven standards development process.

"The ANSI audit provided us with valuable insights to refine and improve our processes," said Randy Bowman, IACET President & CEO. "We are setting a new benchmark for quality in our standards development approach to ensure greater stakeholder engagement, procedural transparency, and continued excellence in learning and development. With our commitment to a two-year timeline, we look forward to delivering an even stronger standard that meets the needs of the global learning community."

IACET remains an ANSI-Accredited Standards Developer (ASD) in good standing and will continue to provide updates as it works toward the next iteration of the standard.
