New Appointments

Sterling, Virginia

The International Accreditors of Continuing Education and Training (IACET) is pleased to announce two appointments for key positions within the organization. “I am really excited about the appointment of Dr. Karen LaMarsh as the Director of Accreditation and Training and Dee Wells as the Manager of Marketing and Communications,” stated Casandra Blassingame, IACET CEO.  “Despite worldwide challenges, we have had an incredible year and we have put a lot of work in over the past several months to assess, strengthen, maintain, build, and move forward! There is still much to do!  We welcome Karen and Dee to our incredible team.”

Dr. Karen LaMarsh, IACET Director of Accreditation and Training

Karen holds a B.S. in Engineering from Georgia Technical University and both a Master and Doctoral degrees in Adult Education from the University of Georgia. Her work experience includes eight years with the College of Continuing and Professional Education at Kennesaw State University. For two years, she was an internal auditor for the Board of Regents with the University System of Georgia.

She was the Executive Director of Clayton State University Continuing and Professional Education. At that same time, she served as the Chair of the University System of Georgia Board of Regents Administrative Committee on Public Service and Continuing Education for three years. With the Georgia Adult Education Association, she held the offices of Vice President for Programs, President, Past President, and Member-at-Large. As a staunch advocate for quality adult continuing and professional education, Karen has served as a commissioner with the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training and served as the Chair of the Commission. She has facilitated national workshops to help applicants successfully establish solid policies and procedures to meet compliance standards. Her passion is creating excellent educational experiences for adults to help them achieve their professional goals!

To stay relevant on current workforce and economic development issues, she served on the Atlanta Regional Commission Workforce Development Board and chaired the ARC NextGen (Youth) Committee. She also participated on committees with the Metro Atlanta Chamber, MAX, HDCI, One Henry Workforce, and Clayton County Schools CTAE. Most recently, Karen has been a consultant with organizations, companies, universities, and colleges who want to ensure that they are offering quality continuing and professional education programs and have efficient operations. She was delighted to work with her alma mater, Georgia Tech, as a part of the Professional Education team.

With great pride and enthusiasm, Karen is looking onward as she takes on the role of Director of Accreditation and Training with IACET, an organization that brings her experience and passions together!

Dee Wells, IACET Manager of Marketing and Communications

Dee Wells holds a B.A. in English from Talladega College and is currently attending the Jakes Divinity School for her Master’s in Strategic Leadership.  Her work experience includes over ten years within the field of Education as an Adult Education teacher and Secondary Educator in both English and Special Education.  For several years as an Educator, Dee also worked in the field of Workforce Development as a Career Advisor with the Department of Defense Military One Source SECO project assisting military spouses in obtaining viable employment and educational opportunities.   

Dee also worked in the field of Continuing Education for several years as a Continuing Education Coordinator with Pharmaceutical companies in Florida, maintaining and facilitating CE credit workshops and credentials within the Healthcare community. Prior to that, she worked in Sales and Marketing within the field of Real Estate as Director of Marketing and a Licensed Real Estate Agent with the State of Florida.  She also worked in the field of Insurance, holding a Florida license in Life, Health, and Annuities.   

Dee is passionate about giving back within her community.  She has founded several youth mentoring organizations that connect qualified mentors with teens in efforts to further their Educational, Professional, and Social experiences.  These are included, but not limited to, student congressional session visits to the White House and mock law reviews and youth business symposiums. 

In the spirit of excellence, Dee takes on the position of Manager of Marketing and Communications at IACET.

The organization’s history includes development of the original Continuing Education Unit (CEU) and creation and maintenance of the ANSI/IACET Standard for Continuing Education and Training.
